How long does number porting take?

Accepted Answer

Simple ports (Category A) for individual analogue numbers typically complete in 10 business days. Complex ports (Category C) for ISDN number blocks can take 4–6 weeks. Simtex will confirm the exact date and time once the port is booked with your current carrier.

Will I experience downtime during the port?

Accepted Answer

The actual cutover takes just a few minutes — usually less than five. During the wider processing period (days or weeks), Simtex provides a temporary number so you can set up call forwarding from your existing line and stay fully connected throughout.

What numbers can be ported to Simtex?

Accepted Answer

Most Australian geographic numbers (02, 03, 07, 08), 13/1300/1800 numbers, and ISDN number blocks can be ported. Mobile numbers can now be ported to a VoIP service. If you're unsure whether your number is eligible, contact our sales team.

What are the porting fees?

Accepted Answer

Simple ports (Category A) are $65, which includes one rejection reapplication. Complex ports (Category C) are $345, also including one reapplication. Additional reapplications are $45 each. Note that some carriers charge their own port-away fee — check with your current provider.

What if my application is rejected?

Accepted Answer

Rejections are usually caused by incompatible features on the line or incorrect account details. Each port includes one free reapplication. Simtex will advise on the reason for rejection so you can resolve the issue before resubmitting. Subsequent reapplications are $45 each.

Question 7

What features need to be removed before porting?

Accepted Answer

You must remove: line hunt or rotary groups, ADSL/DSL/SHDSL services, fax duet, and any carrier-based call diversions. If you have a pending disconnection on the line, that must also be cancelled. Ask your carrier to confirm the line is in a portable state before submitting.
